Citrus meyeri (Meyer Lemon Tree)

The Citrus meyeri, better known as the Meyer Lemon Tree, is a native of China and is widely believed to be a cross between a lemon and an orange. When grown inside in pots, the size of the Meyer Lemon Tree will be determined by the size of the pot in which it is placed. The Meyer Lemon Tree produces white, fragrant blossoms and plenty of fruit. The fruit from this tree is sweeter than that from other lemon trees. The skins of the fruit are toxic to pets, which is typical of citrus fruits.

Sunlight: Like any fruit tree, the Meyer Lemon Tree enjoys a full day of direct sunshine, so place your Meyer Lemon Tree in front of a south-facing window where it can get 6-8 hours of direct sunlight.

Water: The Meyer Lemon Tree likes moist but not soggy soil. When the top 2" of the soil surrounding the plant is dry, it is time to give your Meyer Lemon Tree a good drink--enough so that water drains from the bottom of the pot.

Humidity: The Meyer Lemon Tree prefers mid-range humidity levels (50-55%). Mist your Meyer Lemon Tree, to help it stay healthy because our Colorado air is so dry. You can also place a fine mist humidifier to the room(s) in which you have your Meyer Lemon Tree. Another idea is to place trays filled with stones and water nearby your Meyer Lemon Tree to increase local humidity. Misting your Meyer Lemon Tree with a hand sprayer will also help raise the local humidity level.

Temperature: The Meyer Lemon Tree prefers temperatures above 50 degrees F (10 degrees C) to about 80-85 degrees F (27-30 degrees C).

Soil: Use a well-draining soil. We recommend Fertilome or Fox Farm potting soil mixes.
