If you’ve ever dug a hole on your property, you know first-hand that the soil is not optimal for planting trees, shrubs…well, just about anything. Most of the soil in Chaffee County is a bit alkaline and doesn’t contain much organic matter, which all plants need to grow. That’s why we carry several types of soil amendments, each enriched with organic matter that newly transplanted trees, shrubs, and flowers need for optimal growth and health. We recommend that you use a 70/30 blend of the soil amendment of your choice and your soil (minus the rocks, of course!) when planting in your yard.

When it comes to potting, here at Brady’s West we have a cardinal rule about potting any kind of plant—“No Dirt in a Pot.” By dirt, we are talking about native soil from your yard or a regular top soil. These soils do not have the nutrients that potted plants need to really do well, that is, to thrive. Instead, you need a specially-formulated potting soil. We carry a variety of potting soils including those especially for flowers, vegetables, herbs, seedlings, as well as all-purpose potting soils.
