Pines & Firs
Pines and fir trees are coniferous trees that will provide greenery to your yard year round. They are often used as specimen trees (standing alone) or planted in groups to provide privacy screens. They range in height from 8’ to 80’ and in width from 6’ to 40.’ Along with spruces, pines and firs serve as safe nesting places for a variety of summertime birds in the high country. Although a few of these kinds of trees are slow growers (such as the Bristlecone pine) most are medium to fast growers (6” to more than a foot per year). To add some variety to your collection of conifers, consider both the Douglas Fir and White Fir, both natives to Colorado.
