Caring For and Maintaining Your Pothos
Pothos is a great indoor plant because it is one of the easiest houseplants to grow and care for. A native of the South Pacific, Pothos is a vine-like plant that will often grow more than a foot per year. However, this plant is toxic to pets.
Sunlight: Pothos is a versatile plant that readily adapts to a wide range of light conditions: from bright indirect light to shade. Pothos does extremely well under fluorescent lighting, making it wonderful plant for offices.
Water: Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Although Pothos can be drought tolerant, improperly watering it will create a stressful growing environment for your green friend. Pothos will begin to droop a bit when it needs a drink.
Humidity: Colorado is a dry state with humidity levels much lower than the native environments in which Pothos inhabit. To help create a more humid environment for your Pothos, consider adding a fine mist humidifier to the room(s) in which you have your Pothos. You can also place trays filled with stones and water nearby your Pothos to increase local humidity. Misting your Pothos with a hand sprayer will also help raise the local humidity level. Although the more humidity the better, a constant relative humidity of 50-55% will promote your Pothos’s growth and health.
Temperature: Like most houseplants, Pothos prefers temperatures in the range of 65-85 degrees F (18-30 degrees C). Avoid having your Pothos experience temperatures below 60 degrees F (15 degrees C).
Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix. We recommend either Fertilome or Fox Farm Potting mix.
