Caring For and Maintaining Your Schefflera
Schefflera is native to Taiwan, Australia, and New Guinea and is well-well known for being an incredibly easy-to-care-for houseplant. This houseplant is the perfect choice for someone just getting into houseplants. It is mildly toxic to pets and to people.
Sunlight: Schefflera responds best to bright indirect light, and like other tropical/subtropical houseplants they do not fare will in direct sunlight. If your Schefflera becomes a bit leggy, move it to a location with brighter indirect light. Schefflera can be pruned if they become leggy, which will help them become fuller and prettier.
Humidity: Colorado is a dry state with humidity levels much lower than the native environments in which Schefflera inhabit. To help create a more humid environment for your Schefflera, consider adding a fine mist humidifier to the room(s) in which you have your Schefflera. You can also place trays filled with stones and water nearby your Schefflera to increase local humidity. Misting your Schefflera with a hand sprayer will also help raise the local humidity level. Although the more humidity the better, a constant relative humidity of 50-55% will promote your Schefflera’s growth and health.
Temperature: Like most houseplants, Schefflera prefers temperatures in the range of 65-85 degrees F (18-30 degrees C). Avoid having your Schefflera experience temperatures below 60 degrees F (15 degrees C).
Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix. We recommend either Fertilome or Fox Farm Potting mix.
